ocean view – a journey weblog: One Final Hurrah

We journey typically – two to a few instances per 12 months. In 2019, we went on two massive journeys to Asia: China in June and Japan in October. So it wasn’t uncommon for us to plan a visit in early 2020. In February 2020, we discovered an excellent deal to fly all the way down to Los Angeles, so the journey was booked for the top of February and early March. It was a Disneyland journey. We had been set on visiting Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

Little did we all know this might be our journey for the following 12 months and a half.

Here is our COVID journey story.

Our Disneyland journeys are a whirlwind. We soar in head first, and we go away earlier than we will get snug. We flew all the way down to Los Angeles on Thursday evening, and on Friday morning, we had been at Disneyland’s entrance door. Fortunately, after we do Disney, we go laborious. We begin off working just like the hare (just like the basic telling of the Tortoise and the Hare), consuming all of the meals we will, happening all of the rides we will – and shopping for all of the issues we will. We decelerate after a few days, however by Saturday evening, I used to be not feeling nicely. I had a sore throat and I did not know why. No one I knew was sick. I believed I simply was worn out from work, and drained from not taking a breath earlier than leaping onto the aircraft midweek. That night, I even requested soup noodle for dinner (outdoors of the park). On Sunday, I had shortness of breath and I positively was in no form to be spending 12-hour days on the park. My physique was aching. My husband teased me that my age was lastly catching up and I used to be not a younger spry. We left the park a number of instances through the day so I may relaxation, and by the point the fireworks had been on, I used to be in mattress. I struggled by way of the following two days. Honestly, I could not wait to go house. We had been frightened I’d truly get turned away on our flight, as a result of I had a horrible cough and I had misplaced my voice. I had no concept if I had a fever, however I used to be positively very sick. We returned house late on a Tuesday evening.

The subsequent day, I went to my walk-in physician, who instantly stated I in all probability had coronavirus (what it was identified on the time). He did a swab check on me (excruciatingly painful, I’d add) and despatched it to the CDC for testing. Sadly, on the time, in Canada, the assumption was that you’d solely be in danger if you happen to travelled to/from Iran or China. America wasn’t on the checklist. The CDC threw out my check, and I used to be by no means identified. As a precaution, I stayed house for the following two weeks, and for the following eight days, I had the worst physique fatigue, cough, scorching sweats, and chilly chills of my life. I had no urge for food and I used to be in mattress your complete time. I’ve by no means been so sick. My husband grew to become in poor health every week after me. By the point I felt higher, and was able to return to work – it was March 16, 2020. Your entire world had shut down.

For context, I had been amongst worldwide purchasers at work two weeks previous to my first signs. I may have very nicely caught one thing from considered one of them, or from somebody on the aircraft. Regardless, I’ll by no means know if I had COVID-19 in March 2020. Between you and I, I believe I did.

Here is a number of footage from our journey to commemorate the final journey we took earlier than the world shut down.
